Kittenberger Estate
Precision, Passion, and Kamptal Character
A family legacy rooted in the hills of Mittelberg
For over 150 years, the Kittenberger family has cultivated the land in and around Mittelberg, a small village nestled in the northern reaches of Austria’s Kamptal valley. What began as a mixed agricultural farm has evolved over generations into a dedicated family winery — one that remains grounded, open-minded, and deeply connected to its terroir.
Today, under the leadership of Christian Kittenberger, the estate is entering a new chapter: focused, sustainable, and true to its roots. Christian grew up among the vines, mentored by his grandfather — a traditional Weinhauer — and trained at the wine school in Krems, where he still works as a cellar master. His hands-on approach blends inherited knowledge with scientific curiosity and a bold, modern outlook.
“The vineyard is our textbook – nature sets the path, we walk it together.”
– Christian Kittenberger

From Kamptal, With Distinction
The Kamptal is one of Austria’s premier wine regions, prized for its cool climate, dramatic temperature shifts, and mineral-rich soils. These conditions give rise to wines of clarity, tension, and aromatic precision.
At Weingut Kittenberger, the focus is on Grüner Veltliner and Riesling – the two flagship varieties of the region. From light, playful wines to structured single-vineyard expressions, each bottle reflects the subtle interplay of soil, slope, and weather unique to Mittelberg and its surroundings.
Look out for wines from standout vineyard sites like the Mittelberger Kellerberg, where terraced soils and old vines yield wines with depth, minerality, and elegance.

A Philosophy of Balance
Kittenberger’s approach to viticulture is guided by respect – for the land, the vine, and the rhythm of nature. The estate avoids chemical herbicides and focuses on soil health through native cover crops, gentle pruning, and thoughtful canopy management. In the cellar, minimal intervention lets the grapes speak for themselves.
“Only healthy vines can defend themselves – our role is to support, not control.”
Sustainability is more than a method; it’s a mindset. From day-to-day decisions to long-term planning, everything is done with the next generation in mind.
