Grüner Veltliner – Austria’s Signature White Wine Fresh, Spicy, and Unmistakably Austrian

Grüner Veltliner is Austria’s most celebrated white grape variety – and for good reason. Crisp, vibrant, and wonderfully food-friendly, this dry white wine is gaining a strong following here in the UK.

Grown almost exclusively in Austria, Grüner Veltliner (pronounced GROO-ner VELT- lee-ner) delivers a distinctive flavour profile with bright citrus fruits, ripe pear, fresh herbs and a trademark note of white pepper – known locally as Pfefferl. If you enjoy Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio but want something with more character and complexity, Grüner Veltliner is a brilliant choice.

Austrian Roots, Global Appeal

This grape is native to Austria, where it thrives in regions like:
Weinviertel – the heartland of Grüner Veltliner and Austria’s first DAC region Wachau, Kamptal & Kremstal – known for structured, mineral-driven styles Wagram & Carnuntum – producing vibrant, expressive wines
Though grown in small amounts elsewhere, Austria is where Grüner Veltliner truly shines.
